Description:  The IMSA race and time trials with includes the Corvette Racing Team, has been scheduled for Friday, Sep 9th thru Sunday Sep 11th at the Laguna Seca WeatherTech Raceway near Monterey, Ca. We tried to attend this race as a club in 2020 but COVID 19 made it a non-audience race. We would like to try again this year.
*** I show no one has signed up for this trip. This means I will not be stopping at the Flying J at Lakepoint. The Caldor Fire has closed the highway from Minden to California so I will no longer be staying overnight in Minden. If you are planning on going to the races with me contact me immediately at for a new meeting point and a new overnight stopover motel/location. ***

The Western States Corvette Council who hosts the Corvette Corral advised its members in May that want to attend the races to book their accommodations immediately or expect extremely high rates or non-availability in the local area. I passed that recommendation on to CCU members in the May Membership Meeting and on this website. The hotels and rates identified below could be booked up or rates may have doubled after the Jun 15th announcement that race tickets are for sale to the general public. Be careful to book refundable rooms in case the races are moved or cancelled again.

We will depart on Wednesday, Sept 8th at 8:00AM from the Flying J, 1605 Saddleback Blvd, Lake Point near the Tooele exit on I-80. We will travel West on I-80 trying to avoid the heavy evening traffic in Reno,NV and stop overnight at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Minden, 1659 State Route 88, Minden, NV. Phone 775-782-7500. AARP, AAA, or Senior Rates are $133.95 for King or Two Queen rooms. You can book the rooms on-line or call them.

On Thursday, Sept 9th, we will depart Minden, NV early and take the back roads over the mountains to Carmel by the Sea, hopefully for lunch. We will drive down the coast to Big Sur, turn around and return to Salinas, CA via Carmel Valley. Route may change because of California Fire detours or unexpected traffic backup enroute. We will stay for the races from Thursday, Sep 9th and depart on Monday, Sept 13th at the Best Western Salinas Monterey Hotel, 175 Kern St, Salinas, CA. Phone 831-764-0176. AARP, AAA, or Senior Rates are $166.04 for King or Two Queen rooms. You can book the rooms on-line or call them. Make sure you book the right Best Western. The other Best Western is already at $250 a night.

Alternatives motels if the Best Western is full are:

Quality Inn, 144 Kern St., Salinas, CA. Phone (831) 758-8850. AARP, AAA or Senior Rate is $153 for King or Two Queen rooms. You can book the rooms on-line or call them.

Super 8 by Wyndham, 131 Kern St., Salinas, CA. Phone . AARP, AAA or Senior Rate is $215 for King or Two Queen rooms. You can book the rooms on-line or call them.

Friday Sept 10th and Saturday Sept 11th will be spent watching the time trials, exploring the paddocks, and driving the Parade Lap and experiencing the famous corkscrew. Sunday Sept 12th is Raceday with the race ending that afternoon.

Tickets are on sale and can be purchased from Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.com the Tickets & Accommodations Office at (831) 242-8200. You will need a 3-Day General Admission & Paddock ticket for you and your partner which will cost you $90 each. You will also need a Corvette Corral Package ticket for each person which includes parking at the Corral, Parade Lap, and Corvette Corral Amenities and will cost you $150 for the driver and $125 for the passenger. Corvette Corral is no longer sold by the vehicle but by the ticket holder. If you do not have a Corvette Corral ticket you will be directed to the General Admission Parking and Seating. Make sure you buy the Corvette Corral Package ticket because your ticket must match the car you are driving. If you buy a Acura Corral Package you can’t park in their Corral because you are driving a Corvette and you can’t park in the Corvette Corral because you have a Acura Corral Package Ticket.

We will depart early on Monday, Sept 13th and travel on I-80 to Winnemucca, NV and stop overnight at the Best Western Plus Gold Country Inn, 921 W Winnemucca Blvd, Winnemucca, NV. Phone 775-623-6999. AARP, AAA or Senior Rate is $158.39 for a King or Two Queen rooms. You can book the rooms on-line or call them.

On Tuesday, Sept 14th we will again depart early and arrive back in the Salt Lake Valley in time for the evening rush hour.

Please sign-up on this webpage if you will be joining us.

To make your day at the races more enjoyable, consider buying ear muffs for hearing protection before departing (Much Cheaper than at the track) and bring your chairs. There are no bleachers or seating at the corkscrew if you want to spend some time watching the cars come through the corkscrew. The weather is cool in the morning with sea cover some mornings and sunny in the afternoons. Layered dressing and hats work the best.
